Safety Alert: Danone Recalls Aptamil Batch Due to Toxin Risk
Parents across the UK are being urged to check their cupboards after Danone issued a global recall for a specific batch of Aptamil First Infant Formula. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has identified a toxin called cereulide within the product, which can cause rapid-onset vomiting, nausea, and severe abdominal cramps in infants.
Batch Details and Contamination Source
The recall affects the 800g packs with an expiry date of 31-10-2026. Investigations revealed that the contamination came from a third-party supplier of arachidonic acid (ARA) oil—a key ingredient used to mimic the growth properties of breast milk. This follows a similar recall by Nestle earlier this month, suggesting a wider supply chain issue.
The FSA warns that cereulide is heat-resistant and will not be destroyed by boiling water during formula preparation. Parents who have used the affected batch and notice symptoms in their babies are advised to contact NHS 111 immediately. Retailers have been instructed to provide full refunds to all affected customers.
